In many schools, the desire to play is already there, the only thing missing is access.
Earlier this year, GMG SEA (Malaysia), in partnership with NGO REACH, delivered Sports for All 2026, supporting 484 students across two rural schools in Selangor and Pahang with sports equipment tailored to their needs.
The initiative was shaped through direct engagement with the schools, ensuring the support reflected their actual challenges. At SK Kg. Kuantan, serving around 384 students, the focus was on broadening access to a variety of sports through equipment such as table tennis sets, gymnastics mats, and high jump facilities. At SK Merting, home to 100 students, including Orang Asli children, the support was more targeted, helping sustain the school’s hockey programme with much-needed equipment replacement.
The impact was immediate. Schools saw renewed participation in co-curricular activities, while students gained the opportunity to practise more consistently, some continuing sports they already enjoyed, others exploring new ones for the first time.
Beyond the equipment itself, the initiative created space for confidence-building, teamwork, and everyday engagement in school life. It’s a reminder that when support is built around real needs, even simple interventions can open up meaningful opportunities for young people to learn, grow, and stay active through sport.
